China, US Hold Annual Military Maritime Talks

Qingdao (TDI): The Chinese and US militaries convened the second working group meeting and annual conference under the China-US Military Maritime Consultative Agreement (MMCA) in Qingdao, Shandong Province, from November 6 to 8, the Chinese Defense Ministry announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian highlighted that the talks aimed to implement key agreements reached by the heads of state and foster stable, healthy, and sustainable military ties between the two nations.

The discussions, conducted on the basis of mutual equality and respect, addressed maritime and aerial security concerns, evaluated the implementation of the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea, and explored measures to improve maritime military security.

China-US 2025 Working Group Meeting

Both sides also exchanged views on the agenda for the 2025 working group meeting, Wu stated.

Wu emphasized that such dialogues help frontline troops of both militaries interact professionally and safely, reducing the risks of misunderstandings and misjudgments.

However, the spokesperson reiterated China’s firm opposition to actions taken under the guise of freedom of navigation or overflight that undermine its sovereignty and security.

He reaffirmed that China will continue to defend its territorial and maritime rights in line with laws and regulations, while working to ensure regional peace and stability.
