Montevideo, 25 August 2022 (TDI): On 25th August 2022, Uruguay marked 197 years since its Independence from Brazil. On the occasion, government officials from around the world extended felicitations for Uruguay on its Independence Day.
Overview of Uruguay’s Independence
Uruguay like many other South American countries has seen colonizations from different powerful nations. Previously known as La Banda Oriental, Uruguay saw colonization from England, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil.
Finally, in 1825 the land announced its independence from Brazil. however, it was not recognized by Brazil until 1828. Three years after 1825, Brazil signed the Treaty of Montevideo recognizing Uruguay’s sovereignty.

Felicitations by Pakistan
The Spokesperson of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad congratulated Uruguay on behalf of Pakistan.

The Ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent a cable of congratulations to the President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou. He extended his good wishes to the country on its 197th Independence Day.

The Ambassador of Qatar to Uruguay, Talib bin Mohammed Al-Mankhas also congratulated the nation on its Independence Day.
On the occasion, he expressed his pleasure in the bilateral relations between Qatar and Uruguay that are based on mutual respect and common interests.

Furthermore, he hoped that the relations between both countries would further strengthen for mutual benefit in the future.
Additionally, the Ambassador invited Uruguayans to visit Qatar during the FIFA World Cup 2022 and support the Uruguayan national team during different games.

Felicitations by UAE
The President of UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a congratulatory message to President Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay. In the message, the President extended his wishes to the people of Uruguay on its 197th Independence Day.
Furthermore, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of Dubai also congratulated Uruguayans on their Independence Day celebrations. Additionally, many government officials also stepped forward to congratulate the country.
