Ashgabat, (TDI): A new initiative aimed at supporting economic diversification and empowering women and youth has been launched in Turkmenistan, spearheaded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with the British Embassy.
The project seeks to foster sustainable economic growth and enhance Turkmenistan’s global competitiveness by developing a creative and innovative economy.
Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative, underscored the importance of the creative sector in unlocking economic potential and driving prosperity.
She emphasized that entrepreneurship and innovation are key to creating new opportunities for economic diversification.
British Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Stephen Conlon, also highlighted the significance of the creative economy, citing the UK’s experience.
He stressed that this sector not only fuels economic growth but also strengthens national identity and supports local communities, particularly in rural areas.
As part of the initiative, the UNDP will introduce recommendations to support entrepreneurship and innovation in the creative economy.

A key event will be a forum on the creative economy, bringing together government, international organizations, and business representatives to exchange experiences and discuss policy measures.
UNDP-Turkmenistan Partnership
The UNDP has a longstanding partnership with Turkmenistan on various sustainable development projects, including initiatives to manage the Aral Sea crisis and promote digital transformation.
These efforts aim to preserve ecosystems, improve resource management, and increase the resilience of local communities, while enhancing the efficiency of public services through advanced data systems.
