Washington, 7 October 2021 (TDI): The United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken; welcomed the announcement of the appointment of the new United Nations Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General, Staffan de Mistura; to Western Sahara, via Twitter, on 6 October.
Blinken reaffirmed the support of the US to the political process led by the United Nations; to promote a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of the region.
The Spokesperson of the Department of State, Ned Price; mentioned that the United States supports the political process to advance a durable, and dignified resolution to the conflict in Western Sahara.

Blinken also remarked that the Envoy de Mistura brings expertise; to address challenges in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, to the important position de Mistura holds. Blinken also manifested that the United States will support de Mistura’s efforts; to promote a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Western Sahara and the region.
Blinken also reaffirmed the support of the US to de Mistura; to resume the UN Political process, to finally achieve the resolution to the conflict that the citizens and the International Community needs.
