Washington, 16 August 2021 (TDI): Wendy Sherman, US Deputy Secretary of State communicated with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, on call. She offered her condolences and pledged to help the people of Haiti in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake.
A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on 14th August. The death toll has already reached 1200 and is still increasing. During this harsh time, the Deputy Secretary of the State Department has pledged support and assistance for the people of Haiti. She told the PM that the US is already spending its resources in this regard and will work closely with the Haitian government to mitigate the crisis.
