Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar held meeting with the South Asia Regional Director for Infrastructure Guangzhe Chen in Islamabad on Tuesday, 9th November 2021.

Islamabad, November 10 (TDI): Asad Umar, the Minister of Planning and Development, spoke with the World Bank (WB) delegation led by Guangzhe Chen, the South Asia Regional Director for Infrastructure.


Minister Asad has stated that the administration is committed to reforming the country’s power industry, with an emphasis on eliminating circular debt.

The Minister emphasised the necessity of World Bank assistance for the country’s energy transmission infrastructure growth and upgrading.

Regarding the K4 project, Asad Umar stated that providing clean drinking water and modernising Karachi’s drainage system were among the government’s top priorities.

He stated that the government is dedicated to structural improvements, as well as saving social spending and expanding social safety nets in order to protect society’s most vulnerable members.

According to the Minister for Planning, the government is trying to reform the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in order to modernise the statistical system and enable it to generate high-frequency data.

Guangzhe Chen backed the current government’s energy reform strategy, which included circular debt management.
