WASHINGTON, (TDI): The United States has urged Israel to refrain from conducting a Gaza-style military campaign in Lebanon.
This follows remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who warned of potential “destruction” similar to that seen in Gaza.
The call between President Biden and Netanyahu, their first in seven weeks, emphasized the need to “minimize harm” to civilians in Lebanon, particularly in densely populated areas like Beirut.
The U.S. State Department reinforced that any military action in southern Lebanon should not resemble the situation in Gaza, which has seen significant civilian casualties and humanitarian crises.
Since October 7, 2023, around 42,000 Palestinian, mostly women and children, have been killed in
Israel’s war on Gaz, said the Gaza’s health ministry.

The Israel’s military operations in Gaza also displaced nearly all of its 2.3 million residents, causing severe humanitarian distress. Hezbollah started firing rockets into Israel last October 8, citing solidarity with Hamas.

According to the White House, both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris participated in the call, which was the first communication between the leaders since August. The White House indicated that a summary of the conversation would be shared later.
This discussion comes amid a significant escalation in Israel’s conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah, with no indications of an impending ceasefire in the ongoing struggle against Hamas in Gaza.
