Uzbekistan-EU experts discuss Afghanistan’s future

Tashkent, 18 July 2023 (TDI):  Ismatulla Irgashev, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, and Patrick de Vries, an Advisor at the Conflictology Center of the European Institute of Peace, held a videoconference.

The call centered on the current situation in Afghanistan. Also, the international community’s efforts to restore the country’s economy and provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people were discussed.

During the conversation, both parties engaged in a comprehensive dialogue regarding the prevailing conditions in Afghanistan.

They exchanged views on the ongoing initiatives taken by the global community to facilitate the economic revival of the country. They also addressed the pressing humanitarian needs of its citizens.

The European side expressed high regard for Uzbekistan’s pragmatic approach in formulating a consolidated regional position concerning Afghanistan’s new authorities and their efforts to address the socio-economic challenges faced by the nation.

Furthermore, the European Institute of Peace acknowledged Uzbekistan’s proactive steps.

Patrick de Vries emphasized the necessity of coordinated actions between European countries and Uzbekistan to address the multifaceted challenges of the Afghan situation.

They recognized the importance of joint efforts. He highlighted the significance of collaboration and cooperation among nations to bring about positive changes and sustainable solutions for Afghanistan.

The meeting between them shared the concern and commitment of Uzbekistan and the (EIP) to support Afghanistan’s recovery.

It serves as a platform for exchanging insights and promoting collaboration, seeking viable strategies to support Afghanistan’s journey toward stability and prosperity.

In conclusion, the videoconference facilitated a meaningful discussion on Afghanistan’s current affairs an the efforts being made by the international community.
