Baku, 23 August 2023 (TDI): On August 22, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, and his wife commenced their journey to Azerbaijan to enhance the robust strategic partnership between the two nations.
The Uzbek President and his wife were warmly welcomed by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and his wife. A solemn ceremony was dedicated to officially welcoming the President of Uzbekistan, which was held at the Zugulba residence in Baku.
After attending the ceremony, some high-level negotiations were made between the presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Following that, a ceremony of briefing the media personnel about the negotiations and signing of bilateral documents was held at the Zugulba residence.
The President of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, during the negotiations paid special attention to increasing trade, industrial cooperation, and development of logistics infrastructure. The major projects in the automotive industry, metallurgy, energy, agriculture, electrical engineering, textiles, tourism, and other sectors were also discussed.
During the meeting, it was agreed by the Presidents to implement projects on the development of new logistics chains and the construction of infrastructure, side by side increasing the volume of cargo transportation.
Special attention was paid by the Presidents to the relations in the field of culture where it was acknowledged that days of Uzbek culture and cinema, meetings of artists and scientists were held regularly in Azerbaijan. Regarding that, this year the first Uzbek-Azerbaijani youth forum will be organized in Uzbekistan.
The leaders agreed to continue effective dialogues within the framework of the United Nations, Organization of Turkic States, CIS, OSCE, Non-Aligned Movement, and other multilateral institutions.

Signing of Bilateral agreements
The Presidents of both states, followed by the negotiations signed the agreement on the establishment of the Supreme Interstate Council between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was noted that the signing of this agreement will initiate a new stage in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Within the framework of the visit, 15 documents were adopted at the level of states, governments, and agencies.
Among the documents, the roadmaps, timelined in the year 2023-2024 for deepening comprehensive strategic partnerships and development of cooperation in the field of media were adopted.
Also, the agreements on deepening cooperation in the field of energy and the fields of youth policy and sports were the part of adopted documents.
In addition to that the amendments and additions were made to the agreement on visa-free travel of citizens. Moving forward, agreements were also reached on the implementation of the information system for the electronic exchange of “E-permit” permit forms.
Lastly, agreements on the cooperation on family and child protection, food safety, and between the secretariats of the Security Councils and memorandums on cooperation in the field of cyber security were also signed.
During the negotiations between the President of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, the multilateral cooperation was focused, followed by the agreements signed between the two countries emphasizing the bilateral cooperation.
The negotiations and agreements collectively paved the way for strategic cooperation between the two countries.
