Washington, 5 August 2022 (TDI): The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced an additional aid of $431 million for the people of Yemen.

The USAID announced this addition to the humanitarian assistance for Yemen on Thursday.

This addition takes the total amount granted by the US government to the Yemen humanitarian crisis to more than $1 billion in the fiscal year 2022. This additional aid of 431 million will enable the partners of USAID to continue providing food, water, nutrition, and other services to individuals affected by continuous war.

Years of violence, combined with an economic recession, massive unemployment, and increasing food and energy costs, have left over 19 million Yemenis needing humanitarian help. Furthermore, the war in Ukraine also has had an especially negative impact on Yemen. Because imports make for 90% of the country’s food supply.

This additional aid will enable USAID partners to continue providing emergency food aid, malnutrition treatment, protection, safe drinking water, and enhanced sanitation services to millions of vulnerable Yemenis.

The extension of Truce

The USAID has made this announcement after the extension of the UN truce in Yemen. The truce has been extended for a period of two months. Yemen has supported this extension of the truce.

The extension of the truce will help the people of Yemen by giving relief from the continuous conflict. Also, the truce emphasizes the political solution to the conflict in Yemen.

In addition, the USAID asked them to work together to provide a secure environment for the operations of humanitarian workers.
