Washington D.C, 18 September 2021 (TDI): US President Joe Biden announced a new trilateral partnership named AUKUS with Australia and the United Kingdom on Wednesday. The agreement includes cooperation between the US, UK and, Australia on nuclear-powered submarines, cutting-edge defense technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
On Wednesday, President Biden virtually joined British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, enumerating the reasons for this trilateral effort. The announcement came as part of a collaborative effort among the three states, where President Biden recounted the aspiration to help Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines.
According to the joint statement of the AUKUS member-states, the agreement acts as a historic opportunity to promote security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. The security pact will help Australia with nuclear-powered submarines for the very first time, using technology assistance by the United States.
