Washington, D.C.(TDI)- Through the implementation of a maximum pressure campaign against the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, President Donald Trump has underlined the United States’ commitment to national security. The administration wants to eliminate Iran’s backing for terrorism, stop it from obtaining nuclear weapons, and eliminate its destabilizing impact in the area.
In addition, Iran has been at odds with the United States since 1979 and is still the biggest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, supporting groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a Foreign Terrorist Organization, has conducted cyberattacks against Americans by installing sleeper cells through proxies. Iran is blamed for the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the current Houthi attacks on American commercial and navy vessels in the Red Sea.

Furthermore, Iran is also breaching its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by concealing undeclared nuclear installations and obstructing the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) access. According to intelligence estimates, Iran is modeling nuclear weapons, which raises major security concerns.
Today, @POTUS signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum restoring maximum pressure on the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, denying Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon, and countering Iran’s malign influence abroad. https://t.co/XstlPPxbiF

To counter these risks, President Trump has spearheaded a comprehensive initiative involving multiple government agencies:
In addition to limiting financial access to Iran and its terrorist proxies, the Treasury Department will take action to prohibit the development of illicit revenue and apply harsh sanctions to anyone who violates sanctions related to Iran.
The State Department will also seek to strengthen financial loopholes exploited to circumvent sanctions, increase diplomatic isolation of Iran, and fully halt Iranian oil exports, particularly to China.
Likewise, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. will hold Iran accountable for its NPT violations, emphasize Iran’s threats to global security, and advocate for the reimposition of international sanctions.
The Commerce Department will impose export restrictions to limit Iran’s access to military technologies.
The US is still determined to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, growing its missile arsenal, or continuing to finance terrorism. By taking these steps, the United States demonstrates its leadership in preserving international security and protecting its partners from Iranian aggression.
