Islamabad, 24 August 2023 (TDI): U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome met today with Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja before the commencement of an important meeting at ECP headquarters to decide the election date.
The Ambassador emphasized the United States’ support for free and fair elections in Pakistan.
He stressed that the elections should be in accordance with Pakistan’s constitution and laws.
The Ambassador reaffirmed that it is the right of the Pakistani people to decide their future leader.
Furthermore, he emphasized the resolute commitment of the United States to bolster and reinforce its mutual relations with Pakistan, regardless of whoever is chosen as the leader of the country by the Pakistani people.

The meeting of Ambassador Bloom with the Chief Election Commissioner came against the backdrop of the upcoming meeting between the President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi and Sikander Raja to decide the date of the elections.
In the letter forwarded by the President to the Commissioner, accentuating to hold discussions on the election date, Clause 5 of Article 48 was highlighted.
It was affirmed that the National Assembly was prematurely dissolved on August 9 after the forwarding of a summary by Shehbaz Sharif.
Therefore, the general elections are supposed to be held within 90 days according to the Article.
