Washington, 17 September 2021 (TDI): The US Department of Defense announced on Thursday that the Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF-Bravo) will redeploy to Honduras for its next mission, after completing 671 missions in Haiti. The Task Force transported relief supplies, equipment, and assistance to Haiti following the earthquake in the country.
On 14 August 2021, Haiti suffered a 7.2 earthquake and Tropical Storm called Grace which provoked chaos and destruction, leaving behind 2,200 dead, more than 50,000 destroyed homes, and more than 540,000 affected children according to UNICEF. 15 days later, the UN requested 187.
3 million dollars to help Haiti. Ambassador Bruno Lemarquis, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti stated that Haiti and its people need the world’s solidarity today more than ever to be able to face multiple crises at the same time.
On the part of the United States, JTF completed 671 missions, transported 587,950 pounds of relief supplies and equipment, and assisted in rescuing 477 Haitians.
