US Deputy State Secretary arrives in Pakistan

Islamabad, 8 October 2021 (TDI): The Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Wendy Ruth Sherman, met with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed Secretary and her team in his office.

The matters of bilateral relations and future prospects were discussed at the meeting. The incumbent Afghan situation and regional security were also under consideration in the meeting.

The visit made by Sherman is the highest official visit at the diplomatic level to Pakistan by any US official since Biden assumed President office. Other senior officials from the Foreign Office of Pakistan and the USA were also present in the meeting.

Qureshi emphasized reinforcing well-adjusted Pak-U.S relations to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas, including security, trade, energy, and regional connectivity. Pakistan’s turbulent relationship with the United States is under pressure as a consequence of the unexpected Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August. The relations between both countries are deteriorating due to allegations made by the US that Pakistan has a deep covert relationship with the Taliban. However, accusations are denied by Pakistan.
