First-Ever US Crude Oil Shipment Arrives in Pakistan

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s energy sector reached a historic milestone on Wednesday with the arrival of the country’s largest-ever US crude oil tanker, MT Pegasus, at the Cnergyico oil terminal in Balochistan.

The MT Pegasus, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, is the first-ever US crude oil shipment to dock at a Pakistani port. This marks the formal beginning of crude oil trade between Pakistan and the United States following a significant bilateral trade agreement.

The vessel departed from Houston on September 14 and arrived at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) offshore terminal today, setting a new record for the country’s energy landscape. Cnergyico hailed the event as a landmark development in Pakistan’s growing involvement in the global crude markets.

Cnergyico, which previously set a record in 2017 for handling Pakistan’s largest crude oil vessel, has confirmed that it will receive another shipment in mid-November and a third in 2026. This signifies not only a successful start to US crude imports but also promises continued engagement with the international energy market.

With this development, Cnergyico becomes the first company in Pakistan to import US crude oil, marking what observers see as a new chapter in Pakistan-US trade relations. The agreement highlights Pakistan’s growing energy diversification strategy, which includes exploring new sources for crude oil to bolster its energy security.
