Islamabad, 5 September 2022 (TDI): A five-member United States team led by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee visited the flood-ravaged parts of Sindh, Pakistan.
As far as the eye could see, I saw water; we were the first US delegation to visit the most devastating and deadly flooding in Pakistani history. A flood of historic proportion, really a monster of a disaster. pic.twitter.com/I7SnnIbcED

During their visit to the Dadu district, the group was briefed on the area’s rescue activities and flood-related damages. They were briefed by military rescuers and they spoke and listened to locals.
General Officer Commanding Hyderabad Major General Dilawar Khan, Brigadier Hasnat Ahmed, and Deputy Commissioner Dadu Syed Murtaza Ali Shah were also present.
Remarks by Congresswoman
She hoped that the visit from the delegation would show the United States as an effective and consistent partner in helping Pakistan through this humanitarian crisis.
She highlighted that with entire villages underwater, 33 million Pakistanis were impacted by the floods, and almost 70,000 women were expected to give birth “potentially without medical care”.

U.S. and Pakistan Relations
Following Pakistan’s independence in 1947, the United States established diplomatic ties with Pakistan.
Both states collaborate closely with Pakistan on a wide range of issues, including Afghanistan’s stabilization and counterterrorism, energy, trade and investment, health, sustainable energy, and tackling the climate problem.
The United States is one of Pakistan’s greatest sources of foreign direct investment and its largest export market. Moreover, trade and investment relations between the U.S. and Pakistan continue to expand.
The U.S. government supports this growth by organizing business-to-business trade delegations, providing technical assistance, and promoting business opportunities for U.S. firms to develop U.S. and Pakistan commercial partnerships.
