US condemns Balochistan attacks

State department, Pentagon hints at supporting Pakistan against terrorist

WASHINGTON 03 Sep 2024 (TDI): The US State Department’s spokesperson Matthew Miller has strongly condemned terrorists attacks in Balochistan that killed over 50 people.

In his news briefing, Miller said that Washington strongly condemned deadly attacks that targeted security officials and civilians, besides killing 23 civilians in Musakhail last week.

Last week 23 personnel were offloaded from passenger buses and trucks and killed in the area while in a separate incidents over 50 people including 14 security personnel were martyred.

On a question about increasing attacks in Balochistan and recent incidents of terrorism, the spokesperson said that people in Pakistan have suffered greatly due to terrorism and. The spokesperson expressed sympathies for the victims and families that suffered due to losses in terrorism.

He added that the US and Pakistan have shared interest in tackling threat to regional stability and Washington will continue to support Pakistan in fight against terrorism.

On the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, the Miller said that the US will continue to enforce sanctions against Iran adding that one should be conscious the potential ramifications of such agreements. However, he realized the fact of energy crises in Pakistan saying, “we continue to discuss energy security with the government of Pakistan”.

Earlier, Pentagon also strongly condemned the Balochistan attacks. Responding to a question regarding the US support to Pakistan against the terrorist groups in a press briefing, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said she was not aware of any details regarding to the type of cooperation with Pakistan at this time.

She said that she will update as soon as she know any detail in this connection.

The US strongly condemn any terrorist attack, and share grief with the bereaved families, she said. Responding to a question, she said Washington is always willing to work with any nation that wants to root out terrorist outlets.
