Washington DC, 18 April 2023 (TDI): Deputy Secretary of the United States (US), Wendy R. Sherman has reaffirmed the US commitment to strengthening ties with the Dominican Republic and bolstering the tourism sector to promote greater economic prosperity and people-to-people exchanges.

“More than 3 million US tourists visit the Dominican Republic each year, and over 300,000 US citizens live here permanently,” Deputy Secretary Sherman said.

“We are committed to deepening this connection and expanding opportunities for Americans to visit and invest in this beautiful country,” she further added.

US-Dominican Republic ties

To mention, the Dominican Republic is a key partner of the US in the Caribbean region, with shared interests in promoting economic growth, regional security, and democratic governance.

The US is one of the Dominican Republic’s largest trading partners, and this bilateral trade relationship supports thousands of jobs on both sides of the border.

In recent years, the Dominican Republic has made significant progress in strengthening its tourism sector, which is a key driver of economic growth and job creation.

Moreover, the US government has been working closely with the country to support the development of the tourism sector and improve infrastructure, including airports, roads, and other facilities.

It is also working to promote greater cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries, including through exchange programs for students and professionals.
