Islamabad, 25 August 2022 (TDI): Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, UN World Food Programme’s (UNWFP) Special Advisor on Mother and Child Nutrition, called on Miftah Ismail, Minister for Finance and Revenue of Pakistan, on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Finance Minister discussed various reform initiatives introduced by the present government for the social and economic development of the country.
Moreover, he informed the UNWFP advisor about financial relief provided by the government of Pakistan to the women through the Benazir Income Support Programme and the cash relief announced for the flood victims.
Further, Miftah Ismail urged all the development partners to extend broad-based support and assistance to Pakistan for the people affected by the floods across the country.
In addition, the discussions on initiatives of the present government for women’s development, mother and child healthcare, and children’s education, were also held in the meeting.
The Finance Minister thanked the World Food Programme (WFP) officials for their continued support to Pakistan by providing humanitarian assistance.
UNWFP Special Advisor, Sarah Zeid, on her part, highlighted UN World Food Program’s various interventions and work in various sectors in Pakistan.
Further, she appreciated the constant support and assistance to WFP, from both federal and provincial officials in the country.
She further extended her assistance in several fields, including humanitarian aid, nutritional needs, women’s development, financing poverty alleviation, etc.
The finance minister thanked Princess Sarah Zeid for promoting socio-economic development in the country. Lastly, he extended his full cooperation and support to WFP initiatives.
Moreover, Chris Kaye, Representative, and Country Director of WFP, Mahamadou Tanimoune, Head of Nutrition-WFP, Secretary finance, Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh. and other senior officials were also presented at the meeting.
Previous Meeting
On Wednesday, UNWFP Special Advisor on Mother and Child Nutrition, Sarah Zeid, met with the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi.
Sarah Zeid arrived in Pakistan on an official visit on Sunday. During the visit, she will also meet the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other Pakistani government officials.
