United States plans trilateral summit with Korea and Japan

Tokyo, 1 April 2024 (TDI): The United States plans to host a trilateral summit between President Joe Biden and his Korean and Japanese counterparts in July on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Washington.

In this meeting, President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and South Korea’s President will discuss the cyber threat posed by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Moreover, they are likely to discuss issues related to deterrence against China, North Korea’s nuclear threat, and countries involved in military ties with Russia.

Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said, “No schedule has been set for a US-Japan-South Korea leader’s meeting”. She declined the comments on the July 9-11 NATO Summit invitation to Fumio Kishida.

Japanese President Kashida and Korean President Yoon attended the NATO Summit in 2022 and 2023.

Furthermore, “In this summit, US-Led Security alliance has sought to strengthen relations with Indo-Pacific partners including Japan and Korea.”
