What is the UNDP?
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the largest UN entity with a staff of 8,500 worldwide. Its mission is to promote sustainable development and eliminate poverty in developing countries.
The organization is the UN’s global development network. It works with countries to help build and share knowledge as well as tools to achieve sustainable development across the world through its 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development builds on the foundation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and seeks to end poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change.
Sustainable development is the key to fighting poverty. In recent years, significant progress has been seen with the global poverty rate falling below 10 percent for the first time in history.
Yet, more than 1 billion people around the world live on less than $1.90 a day. UNDP plans to increase its focus on tackling climate change and reducing inequality within developing countries as well.
What is its plan for 2022?

Furthermore, along the lines of gender equality, the 66th commission regarding the Status of Women will primarily concentrate on establishing equality within genders in relevance to climate change, disaster risk, and the environment.

It is estimated that in 2022, the organization will reveal a number of reports regarding policies as well as programs that develop gender equality.
Among these reports are the Gender Social Norms Paper, UNDP Gender Strategy, and the Gender Indices on Women’s empowerment and Women’s well-being.
In order to truly assist countries in their journey for development, the organization has outlined 3 major points that the 2022 strategy will particularly focus on Digitalization, which will focus on building ethical, sustainable, and inclusive societies; Strategic innovation to enhance system performance and Development finance which will focus on aligning the flow of capital with the SDG goals.
Given the rising degradation of biodiversity, conferences such as the UN (United Nations) Biodiversity Conference in Kunming China will assist in strategies to tackle this overbearing issue.
Sealife in this case is also on their agenda, the UN Ocean Conference is scheduled to take place this year where leaders will be brought together and discuss implementation plans for SDG14 to protect the life within the oceans.
Furthermore, 2022 has been declared as the Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture, as small fisheries give employment to millions as well as eradicate hunger for billions in line with SDG2.
On climate change, the UN climate change conference for 2022, COP27 which is expected to take place between November 7th to 18th will occur on the basis of the agreements made in the COP26, which happened in 2021.
