Islamabad, 3 July 2021 (TDI): The resident representative of the Pakistan chapter of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Pakistan, Knut Ostby met with the German Ambassador to Pakistan, Bernard Schlagheck.

Balochistan Stabilization Program

The agenda of the meeting between the two was to exchange views on a rights-based program in Balochistan. The Balochistan Stabilization Program aims to sustain as well as assist the community that has been facing terrorism for a long time.

The initiative will fight the plague of terrorism via training programs pertaining to the deradicalization of the community. In addition, the program will also provide socio-psychological support.

Joint Collaboration for the Program

The UNDP representative also discussed other issues hindering the development and growth of Pakistan with the German Ambassador. As per the policy brief of the program by UNDP, one of the key provisions is that the UNDP personnel will ensure the easy access and availability of resources for awareness.

Furthermore, timely and appropriate action will be taken to ascertain compliance with objects of the program.

Earlier, Knut Ostby and Ambassador Bernard Schlagheck were part of an awareness campaign last month which included a contest of the cycle race.

Aside from the Stabilization Program of Balochistan, the UNDP representative is also leading the “Passion for Tomorrow” initiative. The initiative highlights the stories of the young generation, related to sustainability and innovation in Pakistan.

The Balochistan province is one of the most neglected and least developed provinces of Pakistan, with its natives being subjected to poverty and hardship. It is one of the largest provinces of Pakistan in terms of terrestrial area.

However, in terms of population, being the least populated it ranks at the last, amongst the four provinces of Pakistan. Situated in the southwestern region of the country, it faces acute water shortages and a lack of basic commodities in most of its cities, including electricity.
