New York, 28 September 2022 (TDI): UN Women has expressed solidarity with the women of Iran in the wake of their demands to protest against injustice without retaliation.
Another demand by the Iranian women is to be free to exercise their bodily autonomy which includes choice of dress.
Furthermore, the UN Women has urged that all the women who have been arbitrarily detained in the country must be released.

The death of Mahsa Amini
Public discontent and resultant protests have been occurring in Iran recently in about 80 locations. The unfortunate death of Mahsa Amini brought on this unrest.
On September 13, police officials arrested Mahsa Amini in Tehran. She passed away while in detention three days later.
UN Women has expressed its support for Iranian women in their justifiable demands to protest injustice without fear of retaliation. It has also advocated for them to have the right to exercise their bodily autonomy.
Moreover, the UN Women also stand with them as they look for accountability. It also advocates upholding their fundamental human rights as outlined in the UN Charter.
It has appealed to the appropriate authorities to encourage and facilitate the exercise of all of their human rights in a secure setting free from the threat of violence, legal action, or other forms of retaliation.
Likewise, the High Commissioner for Human Rights also commented on the necessity of ensuring the rights to due process and release for all women who have been unjustly detained.
It has also demanded that the Iranian authorities conduct an impartial investigation into the death of Mahsa Amini. It also urged to make the results of the investigation public, and hold all responsible parties accountable.
In the official statement by UN Women, it has been shared that “We reiterate our expression of condolences to the family of Mahsa Amini. We remain steadfast in upholding the rights of women and girls in every part of the world.”
