New York City, 12 September 2022 (TDI): United Nations (UN) has proclaimed 12th September as the UN Day for South-South Cooperation. In a tweet, the UN emphasized that solidarity among countries in the South region has offered sound solutions to the shared challenges. Furthermore, these challenges can help achieve global goals.

The UN Day for South-South Cooperation 2022 will take place under the theme of ‘Key Priorities and Future Dimensions in Advancing South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Covid-19 Recovery: Towards a Smart and Resilient Future’.

South-South cooperation

South-South cooperation is a manifestation of solidarity among the individuals and countries of the South. These are those countries that contribute to their improved national well-being.

Moreover, these countries also contribute to collective self-reliance as well as the attainment of globally accepted developmental objectives and strategies. This also includes the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Furthermore, with the post-pandemic reality of Covid-19, South-South cooperation may be useful in contributing to breaking down the crisis cycles. These include instability, poverty, and development inequalities.

In addition, developing countries have been taking the lead in expressing their solidarity. Moreover, given the post-pandemic scenario, and the political and economic crisis due to the war in Ukraine, the stakeholders, must improve South-South cooperation.

Moreover, these crises also include climate change. The countries of the south, with the support of partners, including countries of the North, the private sector, and international financial institutions are progressing towards development.
