Ethiopia, 20 August 2021 (TDI): United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that he is gravely saddened and concerned about the violence and unspeakable conditions in Ethiopia. He especially emphasized the forgotten violence on women and others in Tigray while talking to journalists outside the UN office.
Describing the miserable conditions of people in Ethiopia, the humanitarian crisis, and the destroyed infrastructure, Antonio added that spread in conflict may bring more people in danger. It’s time to recognize that there is no military solution for all parties. He emphasized the need to preserve the unity of Ethiopia, as it is also crucial for the region.
UN Chief stressed three points; to give a chance to peace in Ethiopia, to immediately end the hostilities, to allow unrestricted humanitarian access, and to re-establish public services. To find a way to end the crisis, Ethiopian-led political dialogue must be promoted, he added.
