UN celebrates the World Tourism Day 2021

-

New York, 27 September 2021 (TDI): On World Tourism Day 2021, United Nations has shared the news to promote tourism for inclusive growth. UN official account on Twitter also shared a news link with the same tweet that recognizes the strength and potential of tourism to promote success and drive comprehensive, sustainable development.

According to António Guterres, “it is time to rethink, transform, and safely restart tourism as many millions of livelihoods in jeopardy”. Tourism affects every part of economies and societies. This sector suffers a lot during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, in the first five months the international tourist arrivals decreased by 95% globally. He further added, “these forecasts imply a loss of around $4 trillion to GDP at global level by the end of 2021”.

The other factor that affects tourism is Climate change mostly in Small Island Developing States where 30% of tourism is added to economic activity. However, as a number of livelihoods are affected, it is time to change and restart the tourist activities with the right safeguards in place. Moreover, promoting tourism sectors also helps in “providing decent jobs, helping to build resilient, sustainable, providing employment, gender-equal, and improve economic that work for everyone”.
