Vienna, 27 September 2021 (TDI): Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schellenberg celebrated International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

On International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for all nuclear countries to sign the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The UN Secretary-General said that the stockpile of nuclear weapons around the world would lead humanity to destruction.

Austrian Foreign Minister Schellenberg stated that the world can not achieve peace and security by an increase in the number of nuclear weapons. He said that the myth that deterrence and violence are the only solutions should be stopped and measurements should be taken to eliminate these disastrous nuclear weapons.
Furthermore, Schellenberg said that in March 2022, there will be the 1st meeting of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in Vienna.
