London, 19 August 2022 (TDI): The United States Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), Admiral Mike Gilday met with the First Sea Lord and the United Kingdom Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sir Ben Key on Friday.


Admiral Sir Ben Key hosted Admiral Mike Gilday on his visit to the UK. During the trip, Admiral Gilday visited the Tech Bridge in London to meet his British counterpart.

The Naval Chiefs of the two countries met to discuss and review bilateral relations and maritime cooperation between the UK and the USA. In addition, the two countries renewed their friendship in the maritime sector and discussed the invaluable work the two navies do worldwide.

Moreover, during the meeting, the two Naval Chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation. Additionally, they discussed a wide range of issues including strategic competition, interoperability, capabilities, and innovation.

Remarks of US Naval Chief:

The US Chief of Naval Operations said, “Collaborating, sharing information, and demonstrating a united front, will only strengthen our ability to prevail in conflict and bolster integrated deterrence against adversaries.”

“The strength of our alliances and partnerships has never been more important and will continue to be imperative to take on the challenges of the 21st century,” Admiral Gilday added. Further, he said, “ I look forward to the continued cooperation between our two countries and our two navies.”

Moreover, the recently nominated UK Naval Attache to the USA, Roger Readwin also met the US Chief of Naval Staff on his visit to the Tech Bridge.

UK-US Naval cooperation

The US and the UK navy operate together around the globe regularly. Most recently, USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) took part in a six-month deployment as part of Carrier Strike Group 21 (CSG21) with HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08).

Furthermore, the navies of the UK and the USA also conducted multilateral naval training with Australia and Japan during Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) 2021 in October.
