Kielce, 6 September 2023 (TDI): UK Defence Minister, James Cartlidge, attended the International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, Poland. It aims to further enhance the historic defence partnership and close alliance between the United Kingdom and Poland.
This visit marks a pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral relations and supporting a critical new milestone in Poland’s air defence programme.
MSPO, Poland’s largest defence trade show, drew delegations from around the world to collaborate on, discuss, and showcase cutting-edge defence equipment and capabilities.
During his visit, Minister Cartlidge engaged with key Polish officials, including the Head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera, and Deputy Defence Minister Michał Wiśniewski.
Additionally, he met with leading UK Defence companies, such as MBDA, Babcock, and BAE Systems, discussing ways in which the UK defence industry can further support the Polish Armed Forces through future defence exports and deployments.
Poland is not only a close ally but also a key strategic partner for the UK as both nations work diligently to bolster European security, particularly in the wake of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
Through vital defence export programmes, the UK continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Poland’s defence modernization plans, enhancing its defence capabilities.
Earlier this year, the UK and Poland announced a groundbreaking £1.
9 billion contract to deliver the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (CAMM) to Poland, the largest defence export contract between the two nations.
UK-based MBDA entered into a deal with the Polish government in April 2023 that the former will provide state-of-the-art ground-based air-defence capabilities to ensure Poland’s security for generations to come.
Today, another significant agreement was reached at MSPO, as the Polish government signed an executive agreement with Polish defence company PGZ, laying the foundation for the development of the NAREW, an enhanced ground-based air defence system.

The UK welcomed this crucial milestone in the air defence programme, which underscores the ongoing commitment to support Poland’s security.
Minister Cartlidge’s visit also builds upon the UK-Polish Defence Treaty and the UK–Poland Defence and Security Strategic Partnership 2030, solidifying the long-term benefits for both nations in terms of defence, job creation, and skill development.
The UK and Poland share a close alliance, with hundreds of British troops deployed in the country at any given time.
