UK Minister of Commonwealth visits Morocco

Rabat, 28 July 2022 (TDI): The Minister of State Foreign Commonwealth & Development Affairs of the UK, Tariq Ahmad, on his visit to Morocco, met with Moroccan officials to promote bilateral relations.

On 26 July 2022, he met with the Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, to discuss the ambitious energy transition.

He also met with Dr. Ahmed Abbadi, the Secretary General of Rabita, i.e., Muhammadia League of Scholars in Morocco. They discussed the concept of community building and planned to work closely in the future.

Green energy transition

On 27 July 2022, Morocco’s Minister of Trade and Industry Ryad Mezzour met with a UK official.

The two discussed growth prospects in the energy transition and trade sectors and explored possible investment opportunities.

Later the same day, he met with various Moroccan Ministers from the financial sector to celebrate the accomplishments of the Green Finance project. He motivated them to perform well in the Glasgow Climate Pact.

For promoting the Green projects in UK and Morocco, Minister Mezzour drove electric cars designed by the UK. He also met with those electric car owners in Morocco.

This activity was to understand the impacts of this technology so that the production of such technology in Morocco can be expanded with UK’s help.

He also appreciated the cooperation of the UK and Morocco in building a better environment.

He especially lauded the close working of both the states with various agencies like UNDP and UNICEF especially for climate commitments and providing better education facilities to girls.

Strengthening UK-Morocco partnership

He was invited by Rachid Talbi Alami, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco, to further strengthen this cooperation between UK and Morocco.

They recalled the decade-long UK’s support to Morocco in various sectors and explored future opportunities.
