Islamabad (TDI): High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, joined the launch of Pakistan’s New Energy Vehicle Policy (NEVP) 2025-30, and lauded the initiative.
In a post on social media app X, HC Marriott wrote: “Pakistan aims to cut 4.5 million tonnes of CO2 by getting more EV’s on the streets and 3000 more charging stations!”
“Great to join the Prime Minister at the New Energy Vehicle Policy launch, especially since the UK has played a key role in this important work,” she added.

The formal launch came about yesterday, during which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the technical support provided by the High Commission and UK government.
The policy has been designed keeping in view clean transport, climate resilience, industrial transformation, and youth empowerment.
“This policy is not only about clean energy. It is about empowering our youth, reducing our carbon footprint, and opening the door to a new era of innovation and opportunity,” the PM said.

The policy provides subsidies for electric motorbikes, the use of which is already on the rise in urban cities. Electric vehicles, though largely owned by government for now, are also likely to find a considerable consumer market in Pakistan.
Keeping these trends in view, the policy tends to invest more on charging points and encourage the use of electric vehicles. In addition to this, the newly-launched policy also entails distribution 100000 laptops to students.
A 10% quota has also been announced for students from Balochistan, in an attempt to keep the distribution fair.
