Dubai (TDI): The United Arab Emirates has announced four new categories of visit visas and updated conditions for several existing permits.
The changes are designed to attract skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and visitors, particularly in fast-growing sectors such as artificial intelligence, technology, entertainment, and tourism.
Among the new options is an entry visa for AI specialists, issued for single or multiple visits with a sponsor’s letter from a recognized tech institution. Another category is the entertainment visa, aimed at foreigners entering for short-term cultural or entertainment events.
A separate “event visa” will cover festivals, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, and religious or sporting activities, subject to sponsorship and formal documentation.

The fourth category grants multiple-entry permits for tourists arriving via cruise ships or private yachts, requiring an itinerary and a licensed tourism operator as guarantor.
Authorities said the reforms are part of efforts to enhance quality of life, boost trade and transport, and strengthen the UAE’s position as a global hub.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, said the decision followed “careful studies and forward-looking assessments” of regional and global migration trends. “The updates are designed to meet the needs of customers while considering humanitarian and economic circumstances,” he said.
Truck drivers’ visas: Foreign truck drivers may now apply for single or multiple-entry visas, sponsored by licensed shipping or transport companies. Applicants must provide a financial guarantee, pay set fees, and hold health insurance.
Visiting relatives and friends: Income thresholds for local sponsors have been introduced. First-degree relatives require a guarantor earning at least AED 4,000 per month, while second- or third-degree relatives require AED 8,000. Sponsorship of friends requires a minimum monthly income of AED 15,000.

Business exploration visas: Applicants must show financial solvency or proof of existing business activity abroad in line with their proposed venture.
Humanitarian cases: One-year visas are available for nationals from conflict or disaster-hit countries, with renewals possible at the discretion of the Director General. Foreign widows or divorcees of Emirati citizens may also obtain residency under specific conditions, with or without children.
The UAE government said the reforms reflect a broader strategy to adapt visa policies to global economic trends while balancing humanitarian needs.
