Kabul: 30 July 2021 (TDI)
Ross Wilson, Chargé d’Affaires to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is glad to report that the first flight of “Operation Allies Refuge,” which took out from Kabul yesterday, arrived in the United States. The Afghan partners and their families on that flight will arrive in Fort Lee, Virginia, this morning.
According to Wilson, the White House initiative intends to facilitate the safe repatriation of Afghans who have served the United States over the last two decades. This operation is made possible by several public servants from the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.
S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and people from across the US Embassy in Afghanistan. He went on to say that there is still a lot of work to be done to meet the commitments to people who have made commitments to the United States. This endeavor to support Afghans who have risked their lives in service to the United States is an important element.
Wilson concluded by saying that he has met innumerable Afghans who have lost family members and friends, had to rebuild their life, relocated, or been displaced as a result of the Taliban’s decades of destruction. This era must now come to an end with a ceasefire.
