Ashgabat, 1 June 2023 (TDI): The Turkmenistan Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) V. Hajiyev has met with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Secretary General Helga Schmid.
The points of discussion during the meeting include; the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy, the development of cooperation between both sides in the political and economic spheres, the field of energy and environmental security, as well as matters of humanitarianism.
The Turkmen side pointed out that in the context of Turkmenistan foreign relations with international organizations, maintaining an effective and lasting relationship with the OSCE is sacrosanct.
In a similar vein, Turkmen noted that the OSCE’s goals and objectives within the political, economic, and humanitarian dimensions are important for the country in determining the projects and programs executed by OSCE in the Central Asian region, particularly Turkmenistan.

In the political sphere, cooperation with the OSCE in countering terrorism, cross-border crime, drug trafficking, and Human trafficking, as well as violent extremism, was noted.
Similarly, strengthening cooperation in the field of cyber security was highlighted as an important area during the meeting.
The Secretary-General noted the role of Turkmenistan’s policy of Neutrality in the field of ensuring peace and security, and sustainable development in the region and beyond.
The SG particularly emphasized Turkmenistan’s initiatives in the field of energy and environmental security, sustainable transport, and water diplomacy.

One of the earlier meetings that have fostered diplomatic cooperation between Turkmenistan and OSCE is that of 18 May 2023 at Ashgabat. Where the leaders of both sides discussed avenues for enhancing regional security, joint military exercise, counterterrorism, etc.
It was confirmed with satisfaction from both sides that recent cooperation between them, especially in the areas of transport interconnectedness, energy, and environmental security, has been constantly improving.
