Istanbul, 10 December 2022 (TDI): The Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkiye, Sedat Onal held political consultations with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Vershinin in Istanbul.

The consultation took place from 8-9 December 2022 the discuss matters of international relations. They touched on issues such as UN reforms, bilateral relations, Ukraine, and many others.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkiye emphasized the bilateral relations between both of them stating that the bilateral relations which have existed between them need to be strengthened.

Adding to that he stated that both sides should forge ahead to promote development among themselves, their bilateral relations will matter most.

Also, concerning the issue of UN reforms, they talked about the ways to ensure that there is a total reform of the UN structures for the benefit of member countries.

The UN-related organizations need to be worked on as each country looks forward to participating. The need to promote UN mechanisms on cross-border humanitarian aid was another major issue of concern raised during the meeting.

During the meeting, it was also pointed out that countries such as Libya, and others are facing major challenges when it comes to this issue because there are still conflicts in certain countries is a worrying issue.

In this vein, there is a need to increase humanitarian aid to these countries. Those countries have lost lives and their economies have been destroyed due to the crisis they have gone through.

In line with that, the two sides talked about the implementation of the Istanbul Grain Deal. The grain deal was renewed in Istanbul for a further 120 days among the UN, Russia, Ukraine, and Turkiye.

The deal seeks to remove the Russian blockade on Ukrainian ports. This issue was raised during the consultation meeting. They talked more about how to promote these issues.

Both countries seek to get the right thing done as soon as possible within the UN frameworks. They have constantly reached out to each other for more in-depth discussions for stronger ties.
