WASHINGTON 23 August 2024 (TDI): Authorities in Arizona are searching for a man who made threats on social media to kill former President Donald Trump, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday.
Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, is currently in Cochise County as part of his campaign, visiting the US-Mexico border.
The suspect, Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, has multiple outstanding warrants from Wisconsin, according to the sheriff’s office.
When asked about the threat against him, Trump responded, “No, I have not heard that, but I am not that surprised, and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys.”
This incident is the latest in a series of threats targeting candidates ahead of the November 5 general election. Earlier, in August, a Virginia man was charged with threatening Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s Democratic rival.
In December, a New Hampshire man was arrested for threatening to kill Republican presidential candidates.
In July, Trump survived an assassination attempt in which he was shot in the ear. The incident left two others injured and one man dead, leading to widespread criticism of the US Secret Service and the resignation of its director.

Despite the ongoing threats, Trump expressed “great respect” for the Secret Service and their work, while acknowledging that they made mistakes and would learn from them.
