Trump Administration Reviewing All 55 Million U.S. Visa Holders

Washington (TDI): In a sweeping move that has raised eyebrows among immigration advocates and policy experts, the Trump administration announced it is conducting a comprehensive review of all 55 million foreign nationals holding U.S. visas, citing national security and compliance concerns.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Thursday, saying that the review includes temporary visa categories such as student, work, and tourist visas. Officials say this is to identify fraud, overstays, and individuals who may pose security risks.

“This is about making sure our immigration system prioritizes American safety and sovereignty,” said a senior DHS official. “We have a duty to ensure that every individual on U.S. soil is here legally and abiding by the terms of their visa.”

The review will be carried out using a combination of data analysis, biometric checks, and cooperation with foreign governments. While the administration has not detailed a timeline, the scope of the operation suggests it could take months or even years.

Critics warn that the initiative could lead to mass profiling, delays in visa renewals, and disruptions in industries that rely on foreign talent, including tech, healthcare, and academia.

“This blanket review sends a chilling message to millions of law-abiding visa holders,” said Andrea Velasquez, an immigration attorney in New York. “It may further discourage skilled professionals and international students from coming to the U.S.”

The announcement is consistent with President Trump’s hardline immigration stance, which has also culminated into revocation of 6000 student visas just recently.

It remains unclear whether this review will lead to visa cancellations or new restrictions, but immigration groups are already preparing for legal challenges if it does.

For now, visa holders are being urged to ensure their documentation is in order and to consult legal counsel if contacted by federal authorities.
