Port of Spain, 20 August 2022 (TDI): The 2nd Agri Investment Forum and Expo hosted by Trinidad and Tobago officially started on Friday.
It is being held at Queen’s Park Savannah and will end on Sunday. The theme of the 2nd Forum is “Transforming Agriculture through Investment and Innovation”.
Day one of the Agri Investment Forum and Expo was a resounding success.
The Expo was opened at the Queen’s Park Savannah yesterday 19th August at 4 p.m. and will continue today from 10 a.m. and will close at 10 p.m.

Purpose of the Expo
The aim of the expo is to raise awareness about the growing food insecurity in the world. Moreover, it will highlight ways to build a sustainable agriculture system.
During the expo, the participating countries will showcase the advancements they have made over the years in this field. It will also encourage discussions between different countries to enhance cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Ultimately, this will create investment opportunities for local and regional producers. This expo also aims at increasing knowledge and experience in agriculture production.
It also aims at promoting the exchange of technology to achieve increased availability of food locally and regionally. The expo will also help in reducing dependency on imported goods by promoting regional alternatives.
Remarks by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley officially inaugurated the region’s second Agri Investment Forum and Expo on Friday. During his address, he called on the private sector to get more involved in the distribution of local food production across the Caribbean region.
Moreover, Prime Minister Rowley emphasized that the model of depending solely on imported food items should be replaced. He also called on Carribean leaders to keep trying to become self-sufficient in food to protect their countries from harsh times.
Consequently, he said that these events present the best opportunity to solve the problems that are looming large and dangerously in society.
Remarks by Prime Minister of Barbados
The Prime Minister of Barbados, Kia Amor Mottley also attended the first day of the expo. She expressed that she was very pleased to be attending the expo in Trinidad and Tobago. Moreover, she explained the importance of utilizing products grown in the region.

During her address, she highlighted the need of establishing Caribbean-owned transportation. She said that it would help the Caribbean countries to easily exchange their products with one another.
Additionally, she said that the region is facing numerous problems like climate change, COVID-19, and food insecurity. She also highlighted the problems of droughts and floods faced by the world.
Accordingly, she called for the leaders to boost trade and investments within the region. According to the Prime Minister, food and water are the new oil. Therefore, she called on the leaders to strengthen their work for the protection of their country’s economy and the survival of the people too.
Guests at the Expo
Many government officials and diplomats from different countries are present at the expo. Moreover, more than 300 exhibitors are taking part in it.
The Secretary General of the Caribbean Community and Commons Market (CARICOM), Carla Natalie Barnett also attended the Agri Investment Forum on Friday.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands in Trinidad and Tobago, Raphael Varga also attended the 2nd Agri Investment expo on Friday. Additionally, he visited the Exposition of the Local, Regional, and International Agricultural Industry.

The first Agri Investment Forum and Expo was held in Georgetown, Guyana. It lasted from 19 to 21 May, 2022.
