New York, 16 June 2023 (TDI): Following the signing of a Joint Communique on June 15, Trinidad and Tobago has become the 144th state to establish diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan.

Signing Joint Communique

A Joint Communique was signed yesterday between the two countries, formally establishing diplomatic relations and making Uzbekistan a third Central Asian state after Kazakhstan and Tajikistan to extend diplomatic ties to the twin island state.

The document was signed by the permanent representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, and the permanent representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the UN, Dennis Francis.

The establishment of diplomatic relations is often accompanied by the opening of embassies and the exchange of diplomats between countries, indicating the beginning of strong relations.

It is a stepping stone towards extending one’s national interests and policies in other countries while engaging in different agreements and establishing an environment of trust and transparency between the states.

Strengthening Mutual Ties

Uzbekistan and Trinidad and Tobago reiterated their desire to engage in cooperation in light of the principles of international organisations notably the UN and its specialized agencies. Moreover, they expressed their readiness to seek collaboration for mutual benefit.
