Abu Dhabi (TDI): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Faisal Niaz Tirmizi on Friday congratulated Pakistani scientist Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand for winning the prestigious Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in the category of “Influential Figure”.
The winners of the seventeenth edition were announced by Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, during a media conference here.
The Award, held under the patronage of UAE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan celebrated exceptional work in agricultural innovation and date palm cultivation.
Organized by Erth Zayed Philanthropies, the Award saw participation by 187 candidates across 28 nations, reflecting its global importance.

Ambassador Tirmizi lauded the UAE’s leadership in promoting agricultural innovation and fostering global collaboration, emphasizing the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UAE.

He also praised the efforts of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in addressing international challenges like climate change, food security, and sustainable development, while recognizing pioneers like Dr. Markhand who are shaping a greener future.
