Avaza (TDI): The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) continued its work on Wednesday with a series of plenary sessions focused on addressing the persistent challenges these nations face due to their geographical isolation from world markets.
Held under the overarching theme of sustainable development and equal opportunity, the second day of the Conference centered on strategies to overcome the economic and logistical barriers hindering progress in LLDCs.
Participants emphasized the urgent need to address transit limitations, improve infrastructure, and expand international cooperation.
Speakers from member states presented national perspectives and priorities, highlighting both the shared and unique challenges faced by LLDCs.
A recurring theme throughout the sessions was the importance of modernization, particularly in transport and logistics infrastructure, as a foundation for development. However, delegates were also clear on the need to ensure that such efforts are environmentally sustainable.
A significant focus was placed on the transition to a new ten-year development framework through the adoption of the Avaza Action Plan.

This strategic initiative, discussed extensively during the sessions, is seen as a forward-looking roadmap designed to transform structural vulnerabilities into long-term development opportunities for LLDCs.
“The Avaza Action Plan outlines a comprehensive approach at the national, regional, and global levels,” noted one speaker, “and its successful implementation will mark a turning point in how landlocked countries can integrate into the global economy.”
The importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation and investing in key sectors such as logistics, freedom of transit, and digital innovation was underscored as crucial to overcoming barriers. Participants also called for greater international investment and support to bridge infrastructure gaps and ensure connectivity.
Forum members voiced strong support for the Avaza Action Plan, committing to joint efforts that align with the needs of LLDCs while fostering inclusive growth and resilience.
The Plan, they agreed, not only offers a framework for immediate action but also sets a long-term vision for inclusive, sustainable development.
As the Conference progresses, expectations remain high that the outcomes will translate into concrete actions, reinforcing the global commitment to leave no country behind—regardless of geography.
