Washington, 20 September 2021 (TDI): The United States reaffirmed its commitment to partner with the other American countries to enhance climate ambition and accelerate climate actions through regional cooperation, and strengthen resilience and adaptation.
In the High-Level Dialogue on Climate Action in the Americas which took place on September 8 online, participants from 20 countries shared in the meeting their plans to achieve positive outcomes at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) that will take place in November 2021.
USA’s Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry announced the United States’ support for regional initiatives like Renewable Energy for Latin America and the Caribbean (RELAC). The objective of the RELAC is for the countries to work collaboratively toward a regional goal of at least 70% renewable energy capacity by 2030. Kerry also announced the US plans to participate in the Panama-hosted Energy and Climate Partnership of American countries’ ministerial meeting in February 2022.
The United States advances clean energy policies and investments through initiatives, including RELAC, the Department of State’s Power Sector Program, the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative, and the Global Methane initiative.
