Thailand and Philippines Commemorate 72 years of Diplomatic Relations

-

14th June (TDI): Today marks 72 years of formal diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Thailand. Official diplomatic relations between the two were established on 14th June 1949 and since then they have maintained strong economic ties, formed numerous bilateral agreements, and exchanged high-level visits. Over all these years, the diplomatic ties strengthened and flourished significantly.

Besides trade and culture, cooperation expanded extensively in other areas such as politics, defense, tourism, investment, air services, technological advancement, agriculture, and telecommunications. Thailand is one of the major trading partners of the Philippines and the latter highly depends on Thai exports as a source of rice. The two performed trade worth $7.68 billion (US) in 2020 alone.

While both countries celebrate the 72 years of their cordial, harmonious, and dynamic friendship this year, it is hoped that bilateral relations will strengthen in areas of security, economic and cultural ties. Both states will also further build their cooperation in eradicating human and drug trafficking.
