Quetta (TDI): Armed attack on miners on Friday left at least 20 of them killed and seven injured, police told to a newspaper’s reporter saying details are being investigated.
The incident took place when armed men opened fire on a small private coal mine in Balochistan’s Duki area.
“A group of armed men attacked the Junaid Coal company mines in the Duki area in the wee hours using heavy weapons,” the daily ‘Dawn’ quoted Duki Station House Officer (SHO) Humayun Khan saying as.

According to him, the attackers also used rockets and grenades in the attack at the mines.
District hospital in Duki confirmed receiving 20 bodies. The six injured persons were also shifted to the hospital.
In August this year, series of coordinated militant attacks across Baluchistan claimed lives of over 70 people, including security personnel, the assailants and ordinary citizens.

On that occasion, 23 travelers were killed in Musakhail followed by blowing up a railway bridge in Bolan and setting several vehicle on fire at a Levies station in Mastung and killing another 11 people in Kalat as well as a FC camp in Bela was raided.
Referring to the August’s deadly attacks, the DG ISPR in his media briefing in September said the attacks are carried out “on the directives of internal and external enemies and their enablers” with the aim “to impact the province’s peaceful environment and development by targeting innocent people”.
He stressed that a sense of deprivation that exists is being exploited by affecting development and public welfare through fear and alarm.
