Kabul, 2 September 2021 (TDI): UN Women Regional-Director for Asia and the Pacific, Mohammed Naciri shows his cynicism regarding Taliban promises for women’s safety. On 1st September the Regional Director contemplated the Taliban’s ability to protect the Women and Girls and ensure their security in Afghanistan.
Mr. Naciri believed that the governing body of Afghanistan would show inconsistencies in their promises and their execution. Regional Director Mr. Naciri, supported his statement by adding that the assurances that the Taliban government made regarding women’s security will not apply beyond Kabul.
The Regional Director expressed his suspicion that the promises and the actions of the officials will not have a spillover effect over the region. Security and Safety of women from other provinces and villages outside Kabul are not guaranteed, he added.
UN Women Regional-Director for Asia and the Pacific further in his statement advocated for a long term legal advocacy for the Afghan women. Mr. Naciri encouraged the diplomatic efforts to ensure safety and security for women all over Afghanistan and to ensure that the Taliban will uphold their promises.
