Tajikistan-Korea Exchange Prospects for Bilateral Relations

Dushanbe, 3 October 2022 (TDI): Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Sharaf Sheralizoda met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Tajikistan Kwon Dong-Seok.

The meeting was held on 30th September  2022, to exchange the prospects for the development of Bilateral Relations.

Sharaf Sheralizoda hosted the meeting and greeted the Ambassador. The key objective was to negotiate the current state of bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea. The summit also intended to explore further possibilities and prospects for the development of ties between the stakeholders.

The negotiators exchanged outlooks on manifold opportunities within the framework of international and regional organizations. They also discussed various aspects of promoting cooperation in significant sectors.

The Deputy Foreign Minister and the Ambassador agreed to advance the mutually beneficial ties, particularly in the field of economy, trade, and investment between the two states.

Commencement of Bilateral Relations

Bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Korea formally began in 1992. The embassies of both countries are operational. The high officials of both states have paid various visits to each other’s places from time to time.

The President of Tajikistan paid two official visits to Korea in 2005 and 2015. In 2018, the first deputy prime minister of the Republic of Tajikistan visited the Republic of Korea. In 2019, the Prime Minister of Korea came to Tajikistan on an official working visit. The two states enjoy multivariate relations in various fields.

The Forum on Cooperation between Central Asia and the Republic of Korea was held in 2017. The platform was a breakthrough in furthering bilateral relations between the two states. The framework of the forum was very operative for negotiating and exploring the multi-dimensional prospects of cooperation and collaboration.

The Republic of Tajikistan partakes in various programs of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Both countries are keen to advance and strengthen their mutual relations.
