Syria Faces Health Challenges Amid Harsh Winter

Damascus (TDI): World Health Organization says health challenges in Syria have escalated due to harsh winter conditions exacerbating the vulnerability of displaced populations.

According to a report of WHO, there is continuous significant rise in influenza-like illnesses and severe acute respiratory infections since the beginning of winter.

The report emphasized the need for targeted interventions, including better insulated shelters, heating and access to essential medical supplies to address these issues.

Besides, health issue humanitarian crises in the country has been continuing for the last couple of years and reflected in report UNHCR, saying crises to continue in 2024.

Syria Need Assistance

The Syria crises, currently in its 13th year and its world’s largest humanitarian crises, with over 12 million Syrian forcibly displaced in the region.

The February 2023 earthquakes further exacerbated the situation inside the country. and destroying homes and vital infrastructure.

Refugee-hosting countries, which have shown incredible hospitality for over a decade, are suffering from layers of crises, which has led to an increasingly challenging protection environment with heightened pressures for refugees to return to their country of origin, the report said.

Resettlement and complementary pathways remain the most viable durable solution for Syrian refugees who continue to represent the refugee population with the highest global resettlement needs. Over 753,000 Syrian refugees were projected to be in need of resettlement in 2024.

The current crises further deteriorated the situation and it is predicted that Inside Syria, significant humanitarian needs will persist.
