Sweden steps up its Biodiversity Conservation Efforts

-

Stockholm, 14 October 2021 (TDI): Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs called upon the world community to scale up international efforts for biodiversity conservation.

In a recent tweet, the ministry of external affairs expressed its unequivocal support for conserving biodiversity worldwide as it believes biodiversity plays a huge role in sustainable development.

Sweden clamors for enhanced international support for tackling problems associated with biodiversity loss.

According to a UN report published in 2019, around 1 million animal and plant species are threatened with extinction amidst growing human encroachment on natural habitats, over-exploitation of natural resources, rising pollution levels, coupled with the disastrous effects of climate change.

Moreover, a Swedish firm, while sharing a recent analysis report in 2020, found out that a fifth of the world’s countries are directly at risk of total ecosystem collapse due to the unabated destruction of wildlife and natural habitats.

The ministry revealed that in an attempt to accelerate international action on the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems as a part of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, it has accordingly increased its development assistance to protect biodiversity.
