Islamabad, 5 September 2024 (TDI): Pakistan wants to expand these connections and views the UK’s partnership as a key ally for regional peace and prosperity, says Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. He made these remarks in his meeting with his UK counterpart.
Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar met the British Foreign Secretary David Lammy today.
They discussed bilateral relations, elevating Pakistan-UK relations, and regional tensions. The meeting marked an important milestone in cementing the relationship between the two countries.
Reaffirming the Pakistan-UK Relationship
In a cordial atmosphere, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy committed to the deep-rooted relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
Both leaders showed mutual satisfaction in bilateral relations and underlined the importance of the global landscape.
Senator Ishaq Dar stated that the UK is Pakistan’s oldest and most reliable partner in various sectors, such as trade, education, investment, and development assistance.

“Pakistan and the UK possess a rich history of coordination and collaboration. We are committed to building this partnership to even greater heights,” Senator expressed.
Strategic Partnership for Mutual Prosperity
Pakistan and the UK enhanced their strategic partnership and developed a more structured and strategic framework. This adds collaboration in the mentioned areas with strong diplomatic engagements.
British Secretary emphasized the country’s interest in expanding trade relations. The UK observes Pakistan’s growing economy and position as a gateway to Asia.
However, both countries signed the UK-Pakistan Trade and Investment Roadmap in 2021 put the groundwork for a more stable economic relationship.
The proposed strategic partnership addresses global challenges, including terrorism and climate change.
David Lammy stated in the meeting, “This partnership will open new avenues for cooperation in investment, trade, and advanced technology, and will provide benefits to both economies.”
Regional Issues and Geopolitical Concerns
Pakistan and the UK shared views on regional issues like the stability of Afghanistan, the Kashmir issue, and its impact on regional security. Secretary David Lammy appreciated Pakistan’s role in maintaining peace in Afghanistan.
Ishaq Dar shared that Pakistan is working towards peace and stability in Afghanistan while adding the requirement of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
He called for support from International countries for Afghanistan’s recovery.

The Kashmir issue featured a noticeable position in the discussion. Senator Ishaq Dar presented Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue, calling for a peaceful resolution according to the UN Charter.
He stressed that lasting peace in South Asia can only be achieved through dialogue and the value of human rights.
Future Prospects and Continued Dialogue
The leaders precisely and clearly expressed about the future of Pakistan-UK relations. Senator Ishaq Dar and British Secretary David Lammy acknowledged working closely through regular high-level engagements, strategic dialogues, and consultations.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the British government for support to explore new opportunities to stabilize Pakistan’s economy.
He sent an invitation to British leadership to visit Pakistan to advance a strategic partnership.
